Fantasy Golf Course Preview – Charles Schwab Challenge

OVERVIEW

Welcome back! It’s been a long and strange time since the last time I wrote an article. I have a lot of thoughts on both sports and non-sports things, but I’ll leave that for another day because let’s be honest, you didn’t come here for my non-sports thoughts. First things first, this is the first official PGA Tour event since play was halted with three players left on the course at THE PLAYERS, which happens to be three months and some change ago. Some players have been playing in exhibitions, some have hardly touched their clubs and others we have no idea what they’ve been doing because not all these players have been vocal on social media about what they’re up to. Those are the variables we can’t really control. What we can control is picking players who have historically conditioned themselves to come out ready to play after a long layoff (think players who skip most of the fall events and tee it up for the first time at Torrey, TPC Scottsdale, Pebble etc. Usually those players are the cream of the crop in the field, and that shouldn’t be any different here this week. Speaking of that, the field is STACKED this week as many of the players have been chomping at the bit to get back to competitive golf. There are players who are in a good position to make the FedEx Cup playoffs, and others who might have their eye on just being ready for the majors when they finally roll around. It’ll be interesting to see how this week plays out. Colonial is a Par 70 featuring seven Par 4’s that measure between 400 & 450 yards, two Par 5’s (which are two of the three easiest holes on the course relative to par). The course features several holes with doglegs, and this wouldn’t be a DFS article without mentioning the “Texas winds”, so be cognizant of that factor, which always seems to come into play when we’re in that state.
