Billy Horschel

Every single time I hear Billy Horschel’s name I think about the line “Billy, Billy, Billy, Billy, Whoa this is a biggie, don’t let me down Billy” I can’t remember what movie it is from, oh wait it is from THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL-TIME. Here is a minute clip to make you laugh.

For those of you who are huge Caddyshack fans like me, send a tweet to us @fantasygolfers with your favorite line from THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL-TIME. It makes me laugh when people just randomly throw out lines from that movie. I will send an FGI t-shirt to my favorite. I digress to a guy who we think is going to be celebrating this week after a good finish at the FedEx St Jude Classic-Billy, Billy, Billy, alright I will stop now.

In his last two appearances, Horschel has delivered a T11 last week at The Memorial and a T13 at The Players. Just like his personality, his golf game is extremely volatile. When he is playing well, he can be great and when he starts down the bogey train, look out because he can sail off the tracks.

Horschel was born and raised in Grant, Florida and I shit you not, went to Bayside High. We cannot confirm nor deny whether he hung out with Zack Morris or A.C Slater, but we can confirm he did watch Showgirls in the theatre on opening night. Me too. Shout out to all 30 of my buddies that went in a group together to see it at Pavilion Place Theatre after our sixth period class in high school. Sorry this is the last time I drink so many Captain and Cokes while I write the Fantasy Focus.

As you all know and as he makes annoying known, he went to the University of Florida. He was a four-time All-American, including three first-team honors, and the SEC player of the year in 2007 and 2009. Horschel turned professional in 2009. In December 2009, he successfully gained a 2010 PGA Tour card through qualifying school. A wrist injury limited Horschel to four PGA Tour events that year, and he did not make the cut in any of them. In February 2011, he made the cut at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, his first in eleven PGA Tour starts, finishing T13. Horschel finished the season 140th on the money list, granting him conditional status for 2012

After his third successful attempt in four trips to Q School, he earned his PGA Tour Card for 2013. He began his season making the cut in every tournament he entered. He had three consecutive top-10 finishes before his breakthrough win at the 2013 Zurich Classic in his 61st PGA Tour start. By the end of April 2013, Horschel led the PGA Tour in consecutive cuts made with twenty-three.

In the 2013 US Open Horschel finished T4 in his first major as a professional and moved up to 34th in the world rankings and 4th in the FedEx Cup standings. Horschel earned his second win at the 2014 BMW Championship and moved to 23rd in the world rankings. The next week, he won the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club and with it the FedEx Cup and the $10 million dollars. Two days after winning the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup, Horschel became a father for the first time.

When the 2015 wraparound season started and Horschel came back from his “holiday slumber down on melody lane” he was awful with a missed cut, T37 and T73. He has now rounded into form and we think he is going to have a nice run, starting this week. I think he just has an affinity for receiving fat checks written out from FedEx. Why don’t I just write a check out directly to Billy Horschel and avoid the middle man because those bastards charge me like $7 every time I send an FGI member a t-shirt.

Horschel currently ranks 45th in driving distance, but is also deadly accurate to the greens ranking 10th in greens in regulation. He is 115th in Strokes Gained Tee-To-Green, 29th in Strokes Gained Putting, and 75th in Total Strokes Gained. Also look for Horschel to do some damage in the US Open in two weeks.
