AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open Preview
OVERVIEW
This week the European Tour heads to paradise just off the coast of Africa to the island of Mauritius. Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort hosts the event for the third time since the event’s inception and is exactly what you’d think it would be. Wide fairways, slight undulation in the fairways and greens, minimal trees and uninspiring bunkering design means low scores and fun had by all while visiting the island. Wind is literally the only line of defense for the course, and if it doesn’t blow scores could get out of hand, even for the group of professional golfers who have decided to play the event. The greens are large and grainy, which has shown some favoritism towards South African players, probably due to the similarities in kikuyu grass. I wouldn’t use that info as a starting point, and only look to that kind of split as a tiebreaker between two different players.
