Jeff’s Hardcore Core- Sony Open
Week 1 of the 2025 PGA Tour year came and went and for not having Hideki Matsuyama in my core, I actually cashed in most of the GPPs I played. Fading Xander proved to be very advantageous. Pivots to Morikawa who finished runner-up, Aberg who finished T5, and Im who finished 3rd worked well. Good finishes by cheap complimentary guys helped like Pendrith with a T13, Eckroat with a T15, and of course Johnny Vegas with a 4th. Not very often are you profitable when you do not own a guy who blitzes the field, because you have to hit just about everything else, but last week was one of them. A good start to the New Year!
Now the second stop on the Hawaii swing takes place, but this time on the island of Oahu at Waialae Golf Club. I always enjoy the big difference between Kapalua with its massive fairways and Waialae with its much more tight landing areas.
I will also mention how last years’ champion will unfortunately not be defending his crown because of his passing last year. It was really sad to see Grayson Murray not be able to conquer his demons after it appeared like he was able to turn his life around. Just a reminder to all of us how precious life is and how we need to cherish every day we have and the people we care about because we do not know when we or they will be gone.
Enjoy every day we have and enjoy this week’s tournament my friends.
Best of luck Team FGI!
