Stat Boy’s Weekend Warriors – Mayakoba Golf Classic

By Erik Dantoft

Mayakoba Golf Classic Leaderboard Heading into the Weekend:

Coming off a T18 finish at The RSM Classic last time out, Emiliano Grillo was hoping to keep that momentum going at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.  Well, Grillo has done just that so far after he shot a round one 5-under 66 and followed that up with an 8-under 63 in round two at El Camaleón Golf Club.  Grillo has positioned himself nicely at the Mayakoba Golf Classic with a four shot lead headed into the weekend.  Tony Finau also got off to a fast start at El Camaleón Golf Club where he shot 9-under par thus far.  He is in a tie for 2nd place along with Tom Hoge on the Mayakoba Golf Classic leaderboard.  After missing the cut last time out at The RSM Classic, Russell Knox came to Playa del Carmen, Mexico in search of some redemption.  So far, so good as he sits alone in 4th place on the Mayakoba Golf Classic leaderboard heading into the weekend.  Carlos Ortiz continues his great form at the Mayakoba Golf Classic after winning the Vivint Houston Open last time out.  He fired 6-under par thus far at El Camaleón Golf Club and is joined by Brendon Todd, Nate Lashley, Camilo Villegas, Lucas Glover, Akshay Bhatia, Patrick Rodgers, Viktor Hovland and Joaquin Niemann at T9 on the Mayakoba Golf Classic leaderboard.  Brooks Koepka, Russell Henley, Rickie Fowler, Marc Leishman, Sebastian Munoz, Gary Woodland and Chez Reavie all failed to make the cut at the Mayakoba Golf Classic and will have to wait until 2021 before the can tee it up again.  Scoring should continue to improve at the Mayakoba Golf Classic and all signs point to a fantastic finish in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
