Stat Boy’s Weekend Warriors – The Masters

By Erik Dantoft

The Masters Leaderboard Heading into the Weekend:

After having to withdraw from THE CJ CUP @ SHADOW CREEK and the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP @ SHERWOOD due to COVID-19, Dustin Johnson had no issues at the Vivint Houston Open last week when he finished T2.  He carried that momentum into the Masters when he shot a round one 7-under 65 and followed that up with a 2-under 70 in round two.  DJ will enter the weekend currently at T1 on the Masters leaderboard.  After finishing T2 at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP @ SHERWOOD last time out, Jon Rahm was more than prepared for the Masters this week.  He continued his great form Thursday and Friday at Augusta National Golf Club when he shot a total of 8-under par before round two was suspended due to darkness.  The powerful Spaniard has six holes remaining and could easily be the 36-hole leader upon the completion of round two Saturday morning.  Justin Thomas remained in outstanding form during the opening rounds at Augusta National Golf Club after a T2 finish at the ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP @ SHERWOOD last time out.  He is also currently T1 at the Masters before round two was 2 suspended due to darkness.  Both Abraham Ancer and Cameron Smith continue to impress on the golf course after they both fired 9-under par thus far.  They join Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas at the top of the Masters leaderboard.  Tyrrell Hatton, Collin Morikawa, Matthew Wolff and Matthew Fitzpatrick all missed the cut at the Masters and will have to wait until April 2021 for redemption in Augusta, Georgia.  Augusta National Golf Club is playing far less difficult than originally expected and the bunched-up leaderboard sets up for an exciting conclusion at this year’s Masters.
