Weekend Warriors – Valero Texas Open
The Weekend Golf format is very different from the Classic Golf format and it is important to know how to build winning lineups and attack these contests over on DraftKings. Simply put, Weekend Golf is all about scoring. Fantasy points for finishing positions are no longer awarded so selecting the right golfers for your lineup will require the right mix of golfers who started off well and others who might just be finding their form for a solid weekend run.
Unless DraftKings brings back weekend golf – please let them know if you’re unhappy – all prices listed for full weekend will be FanDuel. The Saturday names to consider are all DraftKings pricing.
Thursday/Friday recap
After everyone in the PGA DFS/Betting world touted play off the tee heading into this tournament (myself included), the leaderboard has pretty much gone the opposite way: with names at the top of the leaderboard like Zach Johnson (41st off the tee), Ryan Moore (33rd), Ben Crane (64th) and David Hearn (52nd) – the exceptions being Grayson Murray (1st) and Party Marty Laird (5th)– TPC San Antonio has rewarded the players that can keep it in the fairway but not necessarily smash the ball, gain on approach, and avoid big numbers. While unexpected, this doesn’t change much for weekend golf; distance off the tee still correlates highly with making birdies, so distance will be a factor over the next two days.
The AM/PM splits weren’t as pronounced as expected – nothing like the 2015 bloodbath – with Thursday seeing a 0.45 difference between the two waves, and Friday’s sitting at a .05 difference. For pertinent weather info, see below.
Notable missed cuts: Aaron Wise, CT Pan, J.B. Holmes, Adam Scott, Luke List, Kevin Na, Ryan Palmer, Sergio Garcia, Russell Knox, Pat Perez
