Bonus Model Targets – Shriners Open

We’re done with the mini Asian fall swing and back to the states with the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas. We should see another scoring barrage this week with scores getting into the high teens and low 20’s-under par.

If you followed some of our plays for the WGC HSBC last week, we discussed and hit on many of the European Tour players who came through in a big way! We’re back to a full field where the Friday cut sweats are in play, so this week we’ll look to the low owned, high upside guys that should make the cut and set our rosters apart in GPP’s.

Here’s who I’m looking at rostering and also avoiding this week:

[cointent_lockedcontent view_type=”condensed buyButtonOff” article_labels=”PGADFSEmails”]

Charley Hoffman: Top of the model and my top play prior to the model this week. In GPP’s, his salary value relative to proven upside on this course, where many low scores will be had, he’s just too cheap. He’ll be on all my rosters this week.

Cameron Smith: Might be my favorite “low owned” play of the week. Outside of his missed cut in his only start in Vegas last year, Smith comes into this start in great form. Will go widely overlooked and like him for a top twenty play this week.

Lucas Glover: He came out of the box hot last week with a top-five finish. He was in the mix early on Sunday to compete but Cody Gribble was just too good. We’ve seen Glover go on runs throughout the season and this fall stretch might not be different. He comes into a course where his superior ball striking should once again put him in contention.

Other plays I like (in order of preference)

  • John Rahm
  • Sung Kang
  • Billy Horschel
  • Spencer Levin

Fades?

Keegan Bradley: There’s a lot of buzz around Bradley and his recent turnaround. He’s a sexy play but with his salary taking a jump to $9,300, I like others around him (Rahm) better. I’m still not 100% believing the full turnaround and rather be a week late on Bradley.

Chris Kirk: Kirk has had back to back top-ten finishes coming off a second place in a less than top-tier field at Sanderson Farms last week. He comes into Vegas in great form but in a deeper field and not being able to finish strong last Sunday. Another easy fade for me.

Others I will be avoiding or have very limited exposure

  • Graham DeLaet
  • Scott Piercy
  • Sean O’Hair

Want golf throughout the holidays? Don’t forget to follow our EuropeanTour content as well! With the next three weeks being the Final Series in the Race to Dubai then the new Tour season starts right back up the first week of December, now’s the time to jump in if you haven’t!

Best of luck this week!
